Summery of Article
Vidal Vega the leader of a landless peasant movement involving an accusation with a powerful polotician was shot by two gun men. He was in the process of investigating the death of eleven of his followers and six police officers. The dispute that has been couseing the tension claims that they died in an operation a senator had called to evict farmers from land that he took illegally. The land was said to have been taken during the rule of Gen Alfredo Stroessner and distributed to his allies. The police found the gun man desribed to have killed Mr. Vega, but doubt that he is connected to the other killings.
My Thoughts on it
I think that the police should look further into Mr. Vega's death since he was so deeply in this conflict with government officials. If the senator really did take the land from the farmers then they lost the main person to testify in the court. With out the leader the other flowers may be to afraid to keep fighting for their cause. With all of that in mind it is very probable that the gun men were hired and then the case could have been paid off to close without suspicion.
How It relates to Culture
The article shows that the governing body takes advantage of the lower citizens. In this type of culture people usually feel that they can not do much with the over powering government. However it can call for a cultural change where the people demand better treatment like Mr. Vaga was fighting for.
